Overview
Ethanol dehydration to ethylene (ETO) technology is a green technology to prepare polymer-grade ethylene by catalytic dehydration of ethanol as raw material. In 1982, the Shanghai Institute began to study the ethanol-ethylene project. In 1983, JT-11 and other hotbed ethanol dehydration catalyst were developed, and in 2005,6,000 tons/year of hotbed ethanol dehydration to ethylene technologywas developedd and converted. To meet the needs of large-scale equipment, in October 2006, Shanghai Institute conducted a multi-stage adiabatic bed reaction catalyst and process research in Shanghai Petrochemical. In 2014, the adiabatic bed industrial test of 3000 tons/year was completed and passed the project acceptance. On this basis complete set of technology for ethanol dehydration to ethylene by 10,000 tons of energy-saving biobased ethylene adiabatic bed was successfully developed. At present, the ethanol dehydration project has obtained 10 authorized Chinese invention patents.
Complete technology of S-ETO ethanol dehydration to ethylene
Using the hot-bed catalyst of JT-11 and SETO-1 type of adiabatic catalyst independently developed by Shanghai Institute, a complete set of process technologies with tubular hot-bed and multi-stage adiabatic fixed bed as the core has been formed, including the following four:
① Fixed-bed reaction technology;
② Reactive gas washing technology;
③ Low-temperature ethylene separation technology;
④ The whole process simulation technology.
Its technical characteristics are as follows:
◆ The process flexibility is good: enterprises can use the equal hotbed process or adiabatic bed process according to the scale and needs, and can choose the appropriate product refining process according to the requirements of product quality;
◆ Green and low-carbon: Bioethanol can be used as raw material to achieve renewable utilization of resources;
◆ Energy saving optimization: the heat recovery and utilization of reaction products is considered to reduce the energy consumption of the device;
◆ High product quality: the product ethylene concentration is high, and polymerized ethylene can be obtained after refining.
Ethanol dehydration to ethylene series catalysts
At present, the main brands of ethanol dehydration to ethylene catalyst includes isothermal JT-11 catalyst and adiabatic SETO series catalyst, the main product features are as follows:
◆ Strong adaptability of raw materials: JT-11 catalyst and SETO catalyst can adapt to different concentrations of ethanol;
◆ High activity: JT-I1 catalyst and SETO catalysts have lower reaction temperatures than similar catalysts;
◆ High selectivity: The concentration of ethylene in the dehydrated product of SETO catalyst is reached 99.7%;
◆ High stability: the life of the JT-11 catalyst can reach 18 months, the life of the SETO catalyst can reach 24 months, and the reaction performance can be maintained during operation;
◆ Environmentally friendly: the catalyst has no harmful components and corrosive components and does not pollute the environment.
Popularization and Application
S-ETO and other hotbed ethanol dehydration to ethylene technology was licensed 5 sets, in 1988 for the first time in 3,000 tons/year ethylene technology license, Subsequently, 500 tons/year and 3,000 tons/year of ethanol dehydration to ethylene plants was licensed and in 2005 and 2006, the complete set of technology for 6,000 tons/year of ethanol dehydration to ethylene plants was licensed respectively.
