S-ACT isopropylbenzene technology is based on propylene and benzene as raw materials, through alkylation and alkyl transfer to produce isopropylbenzene, isopropylbenzene is the raw material for the production of phenol and acetone enol is mainly used in the production of phenolic resin, epoxy resin, polycarbonate, etc. Since 1990, the ShanghaiInstitute has successfully developed BTA-01 and BTA-02catalysts based on ultra-fine nano-beta zeolite and MP-01and MP-02 catalysts based on organosilicon hybrid layered zeolite SRZ-21 for the liquid phase synthesis of isopropyl benzene. Based on the above catalyst, the technology of energy-saving isopropylbenzene (S-ACT) was developed.

The project has obtained 41 Chinese authorized invention patents and 18 foreign-related authorized inventions patents and won 1-second prize in National technical invention, 1 first prize for Sinopec Science and Technology Progress, 1 second prize for Shanghai Technical invention, 2-second prize of Sinopec Technical invention, 1 China Patent Excellence Award, and 1 first prize of Shanghai Invention and Creation Patent.

 

S-ACT isopropylbenzene technology

 

S-ACT isopropylbenzene process technology synthesizes isopropyl benzene by liquid phase alkylation, and its technical characteristics are as follows:

◆ Very low energy consumption: the operating benzene ratio of the device is as low as 2.0, which greatly reduces energy consumption and equipment investment.

◆ Very low material consumption: the material consumption of the device is close to the theoretical value, the material consumption of propylene is as low as 0.3510 tons/ton of product, and the material consumption of benzene is as low as 0.6523 tons/ton of product.

◆ Excellent product quality: the highly selective catalyst inhibits the side reaction, so the purity of isopropylbenzene reaches 99.96%, the content of n-propylbenzene is less than 300ppm, and the impurities such as ethylbenzene, butadiene and α-methylstyrene are also very small.

 

Isopropylbenzene series catalysts

 

The main brands of isopropylbenzene catalysts currently include the BTA series and MP series catalysts, the product features are as follows:

◆ High activity: Using BTA series catalyst, complete conversion of propylene, high conversion of diisopropyl benzene; Using MP series catalyst, the propylene can be completely transformed at low temperature and high space speed, and the material consumption is close to the theoretical value.

◆ High selectivity: The use of BTA series catalysts significantly reduces the recombination and circulation of diisopropyl benzene, reducing material and energy consumption. Using MP series catalyst, the operating benzene ratio is reduced to 2.0, which greatly reduces the energy consumption.

◆ High stability: The use of BTA series catalyst has, a life of more than 6 years, hot benzene washing cycle for more than 6 months; The use

of MP series catalyst, catalyst life of more than 8 years, to maintain a long period of stable operation, to maintain the reaction performance during operation.

◆ Environmentally friendly: the catalyst has no harmful components and corrosive components does not pollute the environment, and is renewable.

 

Popularization and Application

 

S-ACT isopropylbenzene complete set technology has been licensed to 4 enterprises, in 2010 in Tianjin (Zhongsha) petrochemical built 300,000 tons/year isopropyl benzene plant, in 2019 licensed 240,000 tons/year isopropyl benzene plant, in 2022 licensed 550,000 tons/year isopropylbenzene plant, isopropylbenzene series catalyst has been applied to Gaogiao petrochemical and other 6 sets of equipment, and exported to Europe.
