Vinyl acetate (VAC) is an important organic chemical raw material, widely used in the manufacture of polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, and further processing for binder coatings, vinyl and fiber, fabric processing, emulsions, resins, and films. The production routes of ethylene acetate include the acetylene process ethylene process, and the ethylene process has become the main way of ethylene acetate production in the world. For a long time, VAC technology andits core catalyst have been monopolized by foreigncompanies, but foreign catalysts have shortcomings such ashigh price, sensitivity to the change of reaction rawmaterials, poor resistance to raw material interference andshort catalyst operating life. To break through the monopoly of foreign companies on vinyl acetate catalysts and products, improve the performance of catalysts, and accelerate the industrial implementation and transformation of patented technologies, Shanghai Institute is committed to and successfully developed a new ethylene process vinyl acetate catalyst and related vinyl acetate production process.

The catalyst won the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress and the second prize of Sinopec Science and Technology Progress. Focusing on the core technology of catalyst, combined with catalyst amplification and reaction process research, a total of more than 60 Chinese authorized invention patents including catalystcarrier development, catalyst innovation, reaction processand other technologies have been obtained.

 

CTV series vinyl acetate catalysts

 

Four grades of CTV series vinyl acetate catalysts have been developed, which can be applied to different process conditions in different industrial plants. The specific catalyst properties and process conditions for industrial applications are shown in the following table.

At present, the main brand of vinyl acetate catalyst is CTV-IV catalyst, which has the characteristics of high dispersion of palladium alloy and reasonable uniform distribution of palladium alloy particle size. The results of industrial application show that CTV-IV catalyst has the advantages of high average space-time yield, high average selectivity and long life when it is run on ethylene acetate industrial plant. The comprehensive performance has reached the international advanced level, especially the catalyst life, and catalyst selectivity is at the international leading level.

 

Popularization and Application

 

CTV series vinyl acetate catalyst has been used in 5 sets of ethylene acetic acid in The successful application of ethylene plant in Sinopec system 100% Yes. During the period 20.21-20.23, the ethylene process ethylene acetate technology completed the licensing of Guangxi Huayi, Shandong Lianhong, Wanhua Chemical, and other enterprises.
