Overview
The liquid phase alkylation technology catalyzed by a molecular sieve to produce ethylbenzene has the characteristics of low reaction temperature, less side reaction, low energy consumption, and high product purity.
The further development of stoichiometric liquid phase alkylation technology with a low benzene ratio and reduced benzene circulation is the development trend of low carbon production of ethylbenzene. Based on an ultra-thin layered MWW molecular sieve, a series of energy-saving EBC catalysts with a low benzene ratio for liquid phase alkylation to ethylbenzene have been developed.
The catalyst has won 1 first prize in technical invention of China Chemical Society and 1 China Patent Excellence Award.

Popularization and Application
At present, the EBC series catalyst has been successfully applied to 4 sets of ethylbenzene plants, In in2013, it was applied to a 320,000 tons/year liquid phase process ethylbenzene plant in DushanziPetrochemical, in 2017, it was applied to a an 840,000 tons/year liquid phase process ethylbenzene plant in Taiwan, China, and in 2018, it was applied to a 500,000 tons/year liquid phase process ethylbenzene plant in Tianjin. In 2020, it will be applied to Shanghai Secco Petro chemical's 650,000 tons/year liquid phase process ethylbenzene device, and in 2023, it will be applied to a POS device in Zhejiang.
