Overview

 

In the process of petroleum refining and petrochemical production, a large number of C4 hydrocarbons are produced by by-products. How to make full and reasonable use of these by-products and develop deep processing products has attracted wide attention. Before the 1980s, C4 produced by catalytic cracking (FCC) in the petroleum refining process was mainly used in the production of alkylated gasoline and composite gasoline, and as a fuel for industrial boilers and civil use. In addition to the butadiene part of the C4 fraction used as synthetic rubber raw material, it is also used as industrial and civil fuel. In recent years, high purity isobutane is used as raw material to synthesize propylene oxide (PO) with propylene after oxidation reaction, and tert-butanol is produced as a by-product.

In order to obtain higher purity isobutane (≥99.9%wt), it is necessary to deeply hydrogenate the C-4 material after alkene separation to ensure that the content of C-4 olefins after hydrogenation is less than 50ppm and the content of sulfur is less than 0.5ppm. In 2013, Shanghai Institute began to conduct detailed research on low olefin content of carbon tetrahydride (after separation of alkene) full hydrogenation catalyst, and successfully developed SHP-C4 catalyst. The project has obtained 3 proprietary technologies from Sinopec.

The active phase distribution, composition and other physical properties of SHP-C4 catalyst developed for carbon four deep hydrogenation are superior to those of similar hydrogenation catalysts, and the catalyst has the characteristics of high hydrogenation activity, carbon accumulation resistance and low sulfur resistance.

Using diolefin less than 0.1%, single olefin content 0.1-10%, sulfur content 10-300ppm carbon 4 as raw materials, hydrogenation products can reach olefin less than 50ppm, sulfur less than 0.5ppm, can provide PO-MTBE and other devices with very low olefin content of high purity carbon tetraalkane.

 

Popularization and Application

 

SHP-C4 carbon four full hydrogenation catalyst was applied in the 600,000 ton/year high purity isobutane unit of Jinling Petrochemical in July 2017, and the comprehensive performance of the catalyst reached the international advanced level.
