Overview
1-butene is a chemically active α-olefin, which is an important raw material for the production of linear low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene and polybutene. Since 2002, the Shanghai Institute began to explore and research, and successfully developed SIB-1 butene bimetallic isomerization catalyst and isomerization technology, converting 2-butene with low economic value into high-value 1-butene, achieving 1-butene production increase and the comprehensive utilization value of C4 hydrocarbons.
The project has 10 Chinese authorized invention patents including catalyst, process and equipment, and has won 1 Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 Sinopec Science and Technology Progress Award, and 1 China Patent Excellence Award.
Complete technology for double bond isomerization of butene
Butene duplex isomerization technology has the following characteristics:
◆ Short process, small footprint: contains reaction and separation of two parts, small footprint. Taking a set of 10,000 tons/year device as an example, it covers an area of less than 800m2 and can be flexibly arranged in the original device.
◆ High product quality: The production of butene-1 products with high purity, less impurities, can meet the downstream polymerization requirements.
◆ Strong applicability of raw materials: It can be applied to C4 raw materials of coal chemical industry and petrochemical industry, and has strong anti-impurity ability. C4 raw materials can be directly entered into the system without special circumstances, and there is no need to add new raw material pretreatment system.
◆ Low energy consumption of the device: The device design fully considers the heat recovery of high temperature reaction products to reduce the consumption of high grade heat.

SIB-1 butene isomerization catalyst
SIB-1 butene isomerization catalyst has the following characteristics:
◆ High activity: The conversion of 2-butene in C4 can approach the thermodynamic equilibrium conversion.
◆ High selectivity: Low content of impurities such as isobutene and 1, 3-butadiene that affect product quality. The product can be separated by tower to meet the requirements of downstream use.
◆ High stability: Life span is greater than 2 years.
◆ Environmentally friendly: No harmful components and corrosive components, does not pollute the environment.
Popularization and Application
In 2009, the technology was first applied in the Central Plains petrochemical industry, and in 2016, the 20,000 tons/year butene isomerization device was built in Shaanxi, and the device has been running steadily for nearly 4 years. Since then, it has completed the licensing of complete sets of technologies for a number of enterprises.
