Antimony catalyst is the most common catalyst used in the polyester industry at present, but antimony is a heavy metal element, which has been restricted by many countries and regions, including the European Union, the United States, Japan, and so on. Titanium polyester catalyst is the most likely non-heavy metal catalyst to replace antimony catalyst because of its environmental friendliness, high activity, and low cost. Since 2004, the Shanghai Institute has focused on environmentally friendly titanium polyester catalysts, and has broken through the difficulties of activity regulation and composition design of titanium polyester catalysts, the activity of titanium catalysts is greatly affected by matting agents, and the solid phase condensation speed of titanium polyester is slow and the thermal stability is poor, and successfully developed the STlC series of new titanium catalysts suitable for polyester production. Established a thousand-ton catalyst production equipment, and in cooperation with several enterprises, has been in a number of sets of three-kettle process and five-kettle processes of polyester industrial equipment to achieve the environmental protection of non-heavy metal fiber grade film grade, bottle grade polyester chip production, while developing a complete set of titanium polyester catalyst formelt direct spinning short fiber technology. The project has obtained more than 30 invention patents authorized by China, won 2-second prizes in SinopecTechnology Invention, 1-second prize of Jiangsu province science and Technology Award, and first Prize in the ShanghaiPudong New Area Science and Technology Progress Award.

 

STiC-01 titanium PET polyester catalyst

 

STiC-01 is an environmentally friendly titanium polyester catalyst, which is mainly used for the production of fiber-grade and film-grade polyester chips. Its main features are as follows:

◆ Liquid, resistant to hydrolysis, miscible with ethylene glycol;

◆ The amount of catalyst is small, based on PET weight is not higher than 5ppm titanium;

◆ Suitable for three-kettle and five-kettle process polyester device, adding method is flexible, and can be added during pulping or before pre-polymerization kettle;

◆ The catalyst activity was less affected by the matting agent, and the polyester chip had good color and high L value.

STiC-B1 titanium PET polyester

 

STIC-B1 is suitable for titanium catalysts produced by hotfilling bottle grade slices, water bottles, sheets, etc. It's main features are as follows:

◆ Liquid, resistant to hydrolysis, miscible with ethylene glycol;

◆ High solid phase polycondensation rate;

◆ The content of acetaldehyde is low, the color value is similar to that of the antimony series, and the thermal stability is good.

 

STiC-T1 titanium PTT polyester catalyst

 

With high catalytic activity, PTT light products and semi-light products were pilot-tested on a kiloton polymerization unit, and the intrinsic viscosity of PTT reached more than 1.0dl/g.

The performance index of the composite wire prepared from this material is similar to that of the imported material.

 

SHRC-01 hydrolysis-resistant PBT

 

The catalyst has excellent hydrolysis resistance and is miscible with water at 90 and stably exists for more than 24 hours, which solves the problem that the conventional catalyst n-butyl titanate (TBT) is easy to hydrolyze into precipitate when it meets water, resulting in pipe fouling, heat transfer obstruction, and need to stop production for cleaning. The viscosity and hue of PBT slices obtained by industrial tests are similar to those obtained by TBT.

 

Popularization and Application

 

Since the first heavy metal-free polyester production in China in 2009, the environment-friendly titanium polyester catalyst has been successfully used in ShanghaiPetrochemical, Yizhen chemical fiber, and other sets of industrial polyester equipment, in recent years, production of titanium fiber grade, film grade, and bottle grade polyester chips tens of thousands of tons, all kinds of new staple fiber products more than 50,000 tons, and achieve a number of downstream varieties exported to foreign countries.
