Overview
With the continuous development of electronic technology, the shape of the display screen is gradually transiting from a rigid screen to a curved screen, a full screen, and a folding screen and a curved screen. Using flexible substrate instead of rigid substrate is the key to the flexibility of display equipment. The processing process of the flexible screen involves high temperature, chemical treatment and other harsh conditions, with high temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, high strength and other excellent properties of polyimide (PI) film has become the only material that can meet the requirements of substrate use. At present, there are no products that can meet the standards of use in China, and they are completely dependent on imports, and key technologies are controlled by enterprises such as the United States, Japan, and South Korea.
The polyimide film for flexible display substrate developed by Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute has been recognized by a third-party company and can meet the requirements of flexible substrate use, which is the first time in China.
The project has obtained 7 authorized invention patents at home and abroad, won the second prize of the 2018 "Central Enterprise Yixing Innovation and Creativity Competition" and the first prize of the 2018 "China Petrochemical Cup" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.
Polyimide films for flexible display substrates
Shanghai Institute aims to prepare polyimide substrate materials that meet the requirements of a flexible display field, and solves the key problems commonly existing in domestic prior art, such as insufficient dimensional stability, high residual stress, unqualified surface morphology, and unstable product performance. At present, all the performance indicators of PI film developed by the Shanghai Institute have reached the application requirements in the field of flexible display substrate.

Popularization and Application
In cooperation with downstream companies, the flexible display screen was successfully prepared using PI made by Shanghai Institute as the substrate. At present, it is in the stage of pilot scale and application promotion.
