Overview
Polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber is one of the key strategic materials in China, the domestic demand for about 20% growth per year, is more than half of the need to import, especially in high-performance carbon fiber mostly rely on imports. Polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber is prepared by polymerization, spinning, heat stabilization, carbonization, surface treatment, sizing, and other steps of acrylonitrile and other copolymers as the main raw materials. Since 2007, Shanghai Institute has successfully developed high strength medium model SCF55, high strength high model SCF50J, and other high-performance carbon fibers, the performance of which has reached the international level of similar products, mastered the complete set of high-performance carbon fiber preparation technology and established innovative platforms such as polymerization spinning, oxidation carbonization and characterization analysis.
The project has applied for 151 invention patents and authorized 63 patents, and the project team has won these second prizes of China Petrochemical Group's prospective Basic Research Science and China Petrochemical Excellent Innovation Team.

Promotion and Application
The high-strength medium model SCF55 carbon fiber has completed the 100-ton process package design, and will be industrialized in the Shanghai Petrochemical industry.
