Methylamine is an important organic chemical product, widely used in pesticides, medicine, solvents, and dyes. The vapor phase catalytic amination method using methanol and ammonia as raw materials is the main method for the production of methylamine at home and abroad at present.

Methylamine is an important organic chemical product, widely used in pesticides, medicine, solvents, and dyes. The vapor phase catalytic amination method using methanol and ammonia as raw materials is the main method for the production of methylamine at home and abroad at present. The mixture of monomethyl amine, dimethylamine and trimethylamine is generated by using a silica-aluminum solid acid balanced catalyst. The structure of the product is close to the thermodynamic equilibrium composition. Since the 1980s, Shanghai Institute began to study the technology of methanol vapor amination to methylamine, and successfully developed four brands of balanced methylamine catalysts and complete process package technology of A-2, A-6, A-6A, and A-16, and realized industrialization. Among them, A-16 methylamine catalyst has made A breakthrough in the inhibition of side reactions, which meets the needs of green development of methylamine production.

The methanol vapor phase amination technology developed by Shanghai Institute has independent intellectual property rights, and won the second prize of Shanghai Technical Invention.

 

Complete technology for producing methylamine by methanol amination

 

Shanghai Institute developed 10,000 tons of methanol amination process package to produce methylamine. It's technical characteristics are as follows:

◆ High flexibility of operation: Strong adaptability of raw materials, through monomethyl amine, trimethylamine partial or full material return, to achieve monomethyl amine / dimethylamine / trimethylamine product weight ratio 1/8/1, to meet market demand.

◆ High yield, low material consumption: The catalyst has the characteristics of high activity, good stability, and high selectivity of dimethylamine and low unit consumption of raw materials.

◆ Energy saving and environmental protection: The process design pays attention to energy saving and environmental protection, and fully recovers energy to reduce energy consumption through the reasonable configuration of heat exchange network; The process of tail gas absorption and methanol recovery is adopted to reduce the emission of three wastes and meet the requirements of environmental protection.

 

Catalyst for methanol amination to methylamine

 

The main grades of A-series catalysts currently in use are A-6A and A16, its main features are as follows:

◆ High strength, uniform particles, and low pulverization are beneficial to improve airflow release and reduce catalyst bed lamination.

◆ High activity, good stability, less side reaction, low environmental pressure.

◆ Main performance indicators:

◆ Methanol conversion rate >99%

◆ DMA selectivity =27%

◆ Catalyst life >2 years

 

Promotion and Application

 

Methanol vapor phase amination catalyst for methylamine production has been applied in more than 20 sets of industrial for more than 50 times. The new A-16 methylamine catalyst will achieve industrial application in 2020, and its performance indicators are better than the A-6A catalyst.
